How do you know if you need a Total Ankle Replacement?
Those with arthritis in the ankle joint or constant pain in their ankle from previous injuries or normal aging, are typically good candidates for total ankle replacement. If conservative measures such as anti-inflammatory medication, braces, physical therapy and modification to physical activity do not provide relief, your doctor may recommend consulting with an orthopedic specialist to discuss ankle joint replacement.Total ankle replacement is surgery that requires a short hospital stay and a period of non-weighbearing in either a cast or boot to allow the implanted joint to heal properly. After healing, physical therapy is often recommended to promote a return to your normal range of motion.
