A dermatologist is a doctor who specializes in skin, hair, nails and the mucus membranes inside the mouth, nose and eyelids. They help patients of all ages with many different diseases including skin cancer, eczema, acne, psoriasis, and nail infections.
When is it time to see a dermatologist?
For many people, the family doctor is the first stop for a persistent rash or acne problem. Over the counter medications or lotions can sometimes provide relief. However, if those solutions don't alleviate your problems or stop working, it's time to see a dermatologist. Common issues with which a dermatologist can help:- Recurrent acne or an acne breakout that lasts longer than two weeks
- Cystic acne - large painful "underground" spots in your skin
- Eczema - an itchy rash
- Psoriasis - irritated, red skin - often with flaky silver/white patches
- A mole or sun spot that has changed appearance
Skin cancer screening
Another reason to see a dermatologist? Skin cancer concerns. Anyone can get skin cancer, regardless of skin color, and it is the most frequent kind of cancer in the US. When caught early, skin cancer is highly treatable. If you have a history of skin cancer in your family or have noticed a suspicious mole or mark on your body, you should schedule an appointment with a dermatologist.Patient Feedback
"I had put off getting a spot on my face checked. When I finally made the decision to get an appointment I thought I would be scolded for waiting so long, but that was not the case. Dr. Anthony and his nurse Kristi were very caring and answered all questions before and during surgery. Throughout the whole process, they were fantastic.
I am so pleased with Dr. Anthony and his staff that I have recommended him to numerous people. I will continue to sing his praises to anyone who will listen. Thank you for having these services so close to home."
